Striphouse NYC - Fantastic Steak Birthday Dinner
By Razib Hasan

When we first arrived to Striphouse I immediately was excited to dine here. The decor is incredible! Plush red velour wall trimmings and sofas. Dark lit and romantic. We sat on the very comfortable plush couch as we waited for them to prepare our table and I looked over at my husband and said,

“This, this here, is a place you come to eat MEAT!”

The wait ended up being about 20 minutes but it was well worth it. Striphouse is a place where you can where a suit and tie and fit in or dress like a hipster. I did see more suits though, maybe that’s standard for a Wednesday night? The service here is incredible. They are very well staffed and you couldn’t drink more than an ounce of your water before someone came around to replenish it.

I tend to put a high emphasis on the bread basket which was plentiful, varied, warm, and served with SOFT butter. {9/10}

We began with their special of the day, the foie gras with pink lady apples (which, btw, are my most favorite type of apples). I thoroughly enjoyed the dish and thought the fatty taste cut by the slight tart of the pink lady apples was a winning combination. My husband said he had better but still enjoyed it. {9/10}

I was disappointed that we missed out on the wild mushroom amuse bouche that the guests around us seemed to enjoy. They apparently forget our table (even though we actually reminded them). Oh well, it wasn’t meant to be (this lost our waitress some % from her tip!) {0/10}

We opted to split the porterhouse for two done medium with a side of the goose fat crispy potatoes.

The meat is carved table side and we kept the bone to give to our neighbor’s dog! Let me talk about the filet side (left in the picture) for a moment. This meat was so soft, so tender, it literally melted in your mouth like the butter that was served in the beginning of the meal. Their house sauce is not like Luger’s but their steak does not need any sauce (or butter like at Ruth Chris). I enjoyed each and every bite of that perfection. The exterior is charred with plenty of seasoning and flavor that it’s all the addition you would need. I really enjoyed the roasted garlic on my plate too, what a fun surprise and fantastic idea! The potatoes were out-of-this-world. It was like some super high end knish. Crispy fried exterior with a rich fatty flavor and potatoes inside. I was so impressed by my entire meal. We both enjoyed it to the fullest! {10/10}

Striphouse is absolutely the perfect place for a special occasion or celebratory meal. I love the simplicity of most steakhouses and Striphouse took those items and raised the bar. We enjoyed a nice dessert of creme brulee that they stuck a candle in for me:

It was very yummy as most creme brulees are! The inside was slightly more watery than custardy (I know, I use the most technical terms). The flavor was spot on though, the pineapple with the Tahitian Vanilla brought us back to memories of our honeymoon.{8.5/10}

I had the most fabulous birthday and birthday dinner! Thank you to all my friends for the lovely Facebook comments and calls throughout the day! HUGE thank you to the most amazing husband who made my night complete with all the details girls dream of (chocolate, flowers, jewelry, steak - you know!)
