Planning a Shrek-Themed Birthday Party
By Thor Hanso

Put up one Shrek-tacular good time by inviting Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona and other Far, Far Away inhabitants to your little kiddo’s birthday party! Believe me, the birthday kid as well as all the other kiddies will surely have a blast! Here’s how!

Send Out Some Ogre-eefic Party Invites!

There are a handful of cool party invite ideas, and one of them is to have some Medieval Scroll Shrek Party Invites. A party invite like this is quite easy since you only have to provide the complete Shrek party details on a piece of parchment paper and with the use of an Olde English font. Then you can have The Magic Mirror Invites as an alternative to the first idea. Create a border like that of a beautiful mirror’s edge on the front cover of your party invites. Then attach an aluminum foil at the middle to complete the mirror-look! You can jot down all the Shrek party details inside your ‘mirror’ card.

Another option is to have some Frog Balloon Party Invites, through inflating a number of green-colored latex balloons then adding frog faces (big round eyes, wide mouth, a long tongue flicked out) to each of the balloons with the use of permanent markers. Provide also the complete Shrek party details on the back side of each balloon, then when all is done, you can start deflating the ‘froggy’ balloons again. Mail these to all party guests using some matching green envelopes. Don’t forget to add a note which tells the receivers to inflate the froggy balloons!

Create A Swampy Venue!

Since Shrek’s abode is a swampy place, get ready to turn the party hall into a swamp-like place! Prop up several clean log stumps and place them in different areas of the party hall, where kiddies can seat on them. Use purple, green and orange colored party balloons, streamers, party napkins and plates for the entire event. Then hang green-colored streamers to simulate some swamp moss. You can even paint frog faces and snake faces on the party balloons!

Plan A Party Menu!

Whip up some gross-looking but totally delicious party foods for the whole party! Have some ‘ants on logs’ by preparing some celery stalks with tasty peanut butter and sprinkled with raisins! You can also whip-up some yogurt on bowls labeled with ‘Fish Eye Tartar’ or some beef stew in ‘Swamp Toad Soup’ labeled bowls. Or have green jello with yummy gummy worms as your own ‘eatable slime’. You can even fill a big cocktail bowl with choco pudding and crushed Oreo cookies then dangle several gummy worms on it. And to top the menu, prepare a big Shrek-inspired birthday cake!

Host Some Party Games and Activities!

You can have the kiddies decorate and embellish their own and original gingerbread man! Prepare enough gingerbread men for all the kiddies then provide them with chocolate chips, gumdrops, and icing for this activity. You can also have a Pin the Tail on Donkey, the Shrek-inspired version of a classic party game. Or have a Cat, Cat, Copycat game, where you need to have the participants seated in one big circle.

The first player must make one body movement (e.g clap his/her hands, shrug his/her shoulders, wave a hand, pinch one ear). The kid next to the first player must repeat this movement then add another one. The third kid on the circle must repeat those first two gestures in the proper order then adds a new one. This game continues ’round the big circle. If one player is not able to remember the movements or intermixes the movements’ order, the player exits the game. The single player that remains up to the final round wins the game!
