Jungle Birthday Theme - Go Wild!

This can be one of the best parties you will ever do. Jungle themed parties are really easy and fun for everybody. Here are a few ideas to springboard you into your own adventure.
- Pick up a jungle sounds CD. This will really start things off right. Whether we pay attention to it, or not, background music plays a big part in atmosphere. Listening to monkeys howl, and birds twitter, and rain falling, will really welcome everyone into your jungle home. Tape gray paper ‘elephant tracks’ up the driveway leading to your door.
- Place potted plants or silk trees everywhere around the house.
- Use brown paper bags cut into strips and twisted up and taped together to make jungle ‘vines’. Cut out green paper leaves (or pick them up at the store) and tape them to your ‘vines’, and string them all over Make it look like they are right in the thick of it, with vines criss-crossing all over the place.
- Make signs to put on walls like, ‘Deepest Africa’, or, ‘Madagascar’.
- Get safari hats, and scarves for everybody to wear during their stay in the jungle.
- Have the kids go on a ‘jungle safari’. Tape foot prints in a trail leading all through the house to try and find the ‘treasure’. Place stuffed animals here and there for them to see, and hide little treasures along the way for them to find. Create a spider web with yarn in one corner that they have to crawl through to keep going.
- Decorate a big brown box with brown paper, and string it with rope from the ceiling and use that as the treasure at the end of the expedition. Fill it with candy and use it like a pinata. Use the scarves that they are wearing to cover their eyes and a stick to beat into the box.
- Any other old standby game can be modified to fit the occasion. ‘Pin the tail on the elephant’, etc. Be prepared with a few extra games just in case you need to move things along, but don’t be afraid to let everyone stick with one game for a while if they are still having fun with it.
- Food can be anything jungle related. Fruit salad, celery sticks filled with peanut butter and raisin ‘ants’, animal crackers dipped in peanut butter, cheeses cut out in the shape of animals, gummy worms, trail mix, banana splits, green punch with ice cubes and pop rocks in it to make it fizz are just a few.
- Make a cake that is shaped like a worm, and cover it with green frosting and licorice antennae, M&M spots on it, or let your own imagination do the job.
- Party favors can be a brown bag full of gummy worms and little plastic flies and insects, cheap binoculars, animal stickers, or let them keep the hats and scarves they were wearing.
The most important thing is to just let your imagination go wild!
