7 Great 50th Birthday Ideas For a Wonderful Milestone Celebration

7 Great 50th Birthday Ideas For a Wonderful Milestone Celebration
By Linda Kling

If you’re planning a big bash for someone who is going to turn fifty, forget an over the hill theme. Instead, it’s time to celebrate a special person who is about to be a half century young. Here are seven ideas to make it a lively, fun and memorable 50th birthday party.

1. This is your life - on wheels. If the birthday boy or girl is currently living in the area in which he or she grew up, start the festivities by taking a trip to all the important places in the celebrant’s life. Form a caravan of cars or hire a limo if your budget allows and print a program or map highlighting each destination. Places of interest could include houses in which he formerly lived, his old school, site of his first job and church where he got married. Let the guest of honor point out the significance of each location. For the last stop, pick a restaurant that holds special meaning to the person turning fifty.

2. Second childhood. Now that the celebrant has reached middle-aged maturity, it’s the perfect time to throw him or her an authentic kid’s party. Hire a magician. Have face painting. Give out goodie bags. Line up for a pinata. Use paper plates decorated with his or her favorite action or cartoon character. Serve cupcakes.

3. Top five lists. Ask your guest before the party to let you know the top five things they like about Bob or their top five memories of Sue. Email, text or even call people for this information to make it easier and quicker for them to respond. Compile all the answers, with a credit to who said each item listed in a memory book. Give it to the guest of honor at his or her celebration. You might also want to edit down the answers to the best ones and make a top 50 book.

4. Birthday trivia. Another way to involve your guests in the celebration is to create a quiz as a party game that poses questions about the celebrant. Look for little known trivia in the guest of honor’s life, like favorites and experiences that are not common knowledge. Let everyone guess the answers, and of course, give a prize to the person who proves they know the birthday boy or girl the best.

5. Blast from the past. For a 50th birthday party idea that will start everyone reminiscing, build the celebration around the past half century for the guest of honor and the world. Start with photo invitations that showcase multiple pictures of the celebrant at different ages. Order personalized party favors that highlight facts and events from the year he was born. Play music that was popular when he was in his teens and twenties. Decorate with homemade poster size collages of photographs of both him and the world scene representing each decade of his life.

6. Missing persons. Track down old friends, classmates, coworkers and neighbors that the guest of honor lost track of over the years. Invite them to the 50th birthday party. It will bring back old memories and may reestablish some friendships.

7. Getaway to an exotic locale. A weekend trip with a few close friends to a resort might actually cost less than a huge, elegant birthday party. Destination parties are becoming very popular alternatives to the standard celebration. But if you can’t get away just now, you can always fake it. Bring that fun location to you by going with a theme like Hawaiian luau, Mardi Gras or fiesta.

This birthday is a milestone that should be celebrated with style. So pull out all the stops and let that special person know how much he means to so many people. Let these ideas inspire you to throw a great 50th birthday party that will be truly unforgettable.

Kids Birthday Cakes - Homemade Can Be Simple!

Kids Birthday Cakes - Homemade Can Be Simple!
By Peggy Rae

Kids’ birthday parties are so magical. Some parents may prefer to take the kid’s party to some out of the way pizza joint and let someone else deal with the entertaining, preparation and clean up. But there is nothing more sweet than a birthday in one’s home with a personalized homemade cake. The cake can be the most memorable part of the birthday. Throw away all of the presents and give the kid a one-of-a-kind personalized birthday cake. Because of this, it is important that the cake be well-thought out.

I don’t worry too much about buying the cake. Your run of the mill, ready-to-make cake mix is really quite tasty. And, as far as I’m concerned, taste isn’t even as important as its packaging. Familiar characters to the child can be an inspiration. If all else fails, ask the child what he or she wants and you can’t go wrong with the theme they pick.

Space themes are really big right now. Monsters vs. Aliens and Planet 51 are two space themes that would make great cakes for kids. Sponge Bob is a highly popular character with so many kids, too. Some parents may find him annoying, but you have to admit he is popular and very funny. For girls, you can’t beat a Barbie cake. And a Barbie theme is especially fun as a tea party for a house load of miniature princesses. I would have everyone dress up in their best fluffy dress and have elbow length gloves as party favors. A tea set would be amazing to go along with the cake.

Another great idea for a party is a cupcake theme. Cupcakes can be done in a myriad of ways. You could even let the guests decorate their own cupcake. How cool is that? From sports, to video games, to your kid’s favorite hobby–cakes can be amazingly fun to dream up, design and create. And as a bonus to get your salivary glands working with your creative juices, I’m going to share one of my family’s favorite and formerly top-secret cake recipes. It’s an Almond Poppyseed Bundt Cake that can also be doubled and baked in a 9×13 pan. Even my daughter who doesn’t like cakes begs for this one. Make sure to try it!

Almond Poppyseed Bundt Cake

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Cream together:

2/3 c. vegetable shortening

1 ½ c. sugar

Add:

2 lg. eggs

3 tsp. almond flavoring

2-3 tsp. poppy seeds

1 pkg. vanilla pudding (my recipe calls for a small pkg, I use a large one)

1 ½ to 1 ¾ c. milk

Mix dry ingredients together and sift

2 ¼ c. flour

½ tsp. salt

3 tsp. baking powder

Mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients slowly. If it seems too stiff for a cake batter, add a little more milk.

Spray pan with non-stick cooking spray (bundt or 9 x 13 if doubling). Don’t miss spots or it will stick. Pour batter into pan, smooth and bounce pan, causing the batter to settle. Place on the center oven rack and bake for 55 minutes to an hour (slightly longer for 9 x 13). Cool and remove from pan.

I’ve made over 72 homemade kids birthday cakes in my years as a mom to five kids and have learned what it takes the pain out of the process. With my help you can simplify your kids birthday menu, shopping, prep, and clean up so you can put more time into looking and feeling your best for the party. Visit my kids’ birthday cake website and learn how to make and decorate amazingly fun cakes, find something for your kid’s tastes that will be memorable for years to come. Plus, find out what tools are best for decorating your cake.

First Birthday Party That Will Make Your Friend Jealous

First Birthday Party That Will Make Your Friend Jealous
By Jared D. Ingram

First birthday party of a child is always special. The guests are primarily close family, relatives and friends. This birthday might not remain in his memories but as the child grows up he will surely cherish those special moments through the photos or video. And what more if you plan this day properly with a nice theme the day could also be etched in the memories of your relatives and might make them jealous.

First birthday party is the most cherished aspect of your and your child’s life. Therefore, this day should be happy, filled with fun and engaging. Kick off the preparations with selecting a theme for your birthday such as Mickey Mouse; Tom & Jerry, Barbie, Pooh etc. the other themes can be1st birthday boy, Baby Einstein etc. which could be more fun.

The invitations can be made very creatively at home or ordered outside. If the invitation cards to the party are exclusive and in-sync with your theme then it would leave the guests in daze. Next up is the selection of food items. The food should be kept simple for the kids. Finger foods are a great option and very popular both among the adults and the kids. For the beverages you can include mocktails, shakes, smoothies and fruit juices. The food could range from peanut butter, jam & jelly, cheese sandwiches, pates, cup cakes, chips, chocolate boats or fingers. A birthday cake is an absolute necessity. And if your cake is a piece-de-resistance made in-sync with the theme, it would probably be the cherry to your party.

A safe and appropriate venue for first birthday party is your home. The kids feel very comfortable and secure at home. You can decorate your house and yard in sync with the theme of the party and put up a banner on the front announcing your kid’s birthday.

Kids love music and also love creating their own music therefore, if you have a duplicate of all the instruments, you will have your very own rock band. Plan cute games like Baby Monitor Madness, Baby Bottle Bowling, Baby Gym Relay etc. these games would not only involve the toddlers it would also include the adults. This way the adults would also be able to enjoy your party.

You can put up a stall where all the guests can have their photos clicked with their children and also the birthday child. These photos can be delivered after the party with the thank you note. You also must not forget to capture the special moments of the first birthday party of your child. You can later create a first birthday book and gift it to your child when he gets old and this would all his memories more special.

If you really want the kids and your child to enjoy and have fun, then go in for a party that is hassle free and have loads of fun and activities that get etched in the minds of the adults for a lifetime.

How to Host a Christmas Princess Birthday Party

How to Host a Christmas Princess Birthday Party
By Shelby Strong

Does your little princess have a birthday during the Christmas season? Throwing a princess-themed Christmas birthday party gives you three areas to draw from, which makes planning the party a breeze.

For invitations, you have two options: you can either use a Disney princess or other princess themed invitation, or you can use Christmas cards. See what your daughter thinks is the best option, and enlist her help in decorating the cards. She can help decorate them with glitter and glue.

Christmas décor will work great for this type of birthday party. Put up a few extra strands of Christmas lights, and keep the holly and bows around. Draw from the Disney princess themes and use it to add to, not replace, the Christmas décor. Put up a few posters of Disney princesses, and add a little holly to them. Frame a nice picture of your daughter in her Cinderella dress in front of the Christmas tree. Try to stick with the holiday colors of red, white, green, silver, and gold. Since the Christmas décor is already up, you won’t need much to decorate the house.

Instead of having a cake, try having a tea party! Let the girls frost small sugar cookies, and gather small pretty candies and let them decorate them. Place the cookies on dainty plates with small pieces of cut up fruit and serve with punch in long-stemmed glasses. If you want to go the extra mile, purchase an inexpensive pair of white gloves for each girl to wear. Wearing gloves while eating makes every little girl feel like a princess. If you have them available, put sparklers on the birthday girl’s cookies for birthday candles. Don’t forget to take pictures!

For the activities, start with playing dress up. It may help if you borrow extra Disney princess dress up clothes from your daughter’s friends before the party. Let the girls take turns in the Cinderella costumes and Disney princess costumes, taking pictures as they model. Turn on some holiday music and let the girls have fun. Playing dress up will probably use the majority of the party time.

Beeswax candles are simple to make, and are special both to the holiday season and to princesses. Purchase sheets of beeswax in a neutral white color, and then buy a few red and green sheets as well. You will also need wicks as well. To make the candles, snip the wick and have the girls wrap the beeswax around it. One visually appealing way to make the candles is to wrap the white beeswax around the wick, and then cut a slightly thinner strip red and wrap it around. Put a thinner layer of green or white on top of that, and so forth. Girls can even make their candles look like candy canes if they’d like! This is a great craft for princesses since it is very easy and has little to no mess involved (we need to keep those Cinderella dresses clean!)

Since the Christmas season is a very consuming, with a schedule of gifts and celebrations, and you’ll want to make sure your daughter’s birthday is something to remember. Make sure she knows that on her birthday she is getting celebrated, not just as part of the Christmas season. Getting her involved in the birthday party planning will help you both create a memorable day for her.

Shelby is the mother of 2 girls and 1 boy and lives in Orem, Utah. She also runs a home-based business called My Cute Dressups at http://www.mycutedressups.com that sells Princess dress up clothes and other fun pretend play items for kids, toddlers, and even teenagers and adult princess costumes. She also has an eBay store and a local store run by the same name. She has seen a noticeable difference in her kids after encouraging dress up play. Visit her website for more biographical information or to see her exciting line of Princess Costumes like Cinderella dresses, Snow White Costumes, Sleeping Beauty dresses, wedding dress up, Medieval Princess, Yellow Beauty, Winter Beauty, Rapunzel dress, doll clothes that fit American Girl, 18 inch doll clothes. She has a Cinderella doll dress that matches exactly with the girl Cinderella dress as well as matching Snow White doll dress.

My Nieces Birthday - Do I Get Her A Wii Game?

My Nieces Birthday - Do I Get Her a Wii Game? by Michelle Hagita

It’s that time of the year again. It’s the thing I stress on every year. What do I get my niece for her birthday? Should I get her some clothes, a board game, or maybe a Nintendo Wii game? At this point I have no idea.
Every year in October I wrack my brain trying to find the perfect birthday gift for my eldest niece. For me, finding the right birthday gift is more stressful than April 15th (Tax Day).

Let me tell you about my niece. She will be 12 years old this year. But don’t let her age fool you. She acts much more mature than others her age. She talks and acts like she’s 25. She has always been advanced for her age and her interests reflect her maturity. When she was three, she wasn’t into princesses or dolls. She was into dinosaurs. I’m not talking about Barney or Rex from Toy Story. I’m talking about the real scientific ones like Tyrannosaurus Rex, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and others I can’t pronounce. No Belle, Ariel or Jasmine, at age five. This was the year of Sailor Moon and Japanese anime. At nine, she was into animals. Not just because they are cute and cuddly. She was interested animal habitat and behavior, kind of like a Jane Goodall. A typical 12 year old today is interested in the Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus. These acts are too corny and passé for her. Today as a preteen 12 year old, it’s all about Sudoku and puzzles.

My quest every year is to get the perfect birthday gift for my eldest niece. But every year I feel like I have failed miserably in my mission. Why I am I trying so hard to find a silly gift for my 12 year old niece? Because every year I seek to find the prized gift that will exude a gleeful reaction from my niece when she opens it.

Whenever she opens a gift, she takes a quick glance at it, mutters a mandatory “thank you”, and moves onto something else. No smile. No joy. No surprise reaction. Finding the lost city of Atlantis would probably be easier than finding a gift that’ll make her smile.

She’s different from my other niece, her sister. My other niece loves anything given to her. Perhaps that’s why I get a kick out of watching her open presents. Her ecstatic, delighted reaction when she unveils her present makes me feel like I made her day and I feel like the best auntie in the world.

My husband says I shouldn’t stress over a gift to a child. But to me it’s more than a gift. I want it to be something meaningful, something she will love and appreciate. I want her to know that Auntie Michelle knows her and her interests. Perhaps it’s my selfish way of feeling appreciated. Don’t get me wrong. I am not trying to buy her love. We have a great relationship. My husband and I are the aunt and uncle she hangs out with the most with even when her other aunts and uncles are around. I guess for me, gift giving is another way of showing I care. I like to put thought into the gifts I give. So every year when she snubs my gift, I feel rejected and unsuccessful.

Here’s another challenge in my gift quest. I have a large number of gift givers I have to contend with. My niece has six uncles and five aunts and a plethora of cousins and other relatives. And that’s only on her dad’s side. My husband and I are the only aunt and uncle from her mom’s side. So among the mountain of gifts from all of these relatives, I want mine to stand out. I want her to say, “Wow! Look at what Auntie Michelle gave me!” I want her to know I know and care about her. Every year I feel like I am fighting an uphill battle for the perfect gift that will stand out.

Because there are so many relatives, sometimes there are multiples of the same gift. When she was three, I got her the newest Land Before Time movie, however, three other relatives got her the same movie. I have since tried to go the personalized route since her name is unique. I got her a personalized fleece Disney blanket with her name embroidered in the corner with matching pajamas. Those were quickly opened and tossed with the pile of other opened gifts with the mandatory mutter of a “thank you”.
I had a theory that maybe she actually likes the gift but doesn’t show much emotion when she’s opening the gift because she’s shy. I threw that theory out the window when I noticed a bunch of unwrapped, unopened gifts from years past in her closet.

I could possibly throw money at the situation and give her cash or a gift card just to meet the birthday and Christmas obligation. But that is not my style. To me, it’s a cop out and shows you either don’t know the recipient or that you didn’t put much time or thought into the gift. And not to mention, she doesn’t like to spend money. She saves all her money and doesn’t spend it on anything, not even a piece of candy.

She is a thinker and likes to do puzzles like Sudoku, so I figure I’ll get her some kind of Wii puzzle game this year. I had a hard time finding the right game with all those large gaming sites, however, I happened to come across a great Wii game page that had rankings of the top Wii puzzle games. I think I’m going to go with one of the top rated games there. Thank goodness I found this site. Let’s just hope she likes it. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Maybe I will actually get the right gift this year.

This is where I went to pick her game: http://top-ten-wii-games.com

Happy 1st Birthday Conficker!

Happy 1st Birthday Conficker!
By Angeline Mabute

Conficker is celebrating its first birthday!

Conficker is a Windows worm targeting flaws in the operating system to assign machines and link them into a virtual computer that can be commanded remotely by its authors. It is also known as Downup, Downadup and Kido which was first detected in November 2008. It uses a combination of advanced malware techniques making it difficult to counteract. It is believed to be the largest computer worm infection since the SQL Slammer of 2003.

According to Shadowserver Foundation, a volunteer group of IT security professionals, there are at least seven (7) million IP addresses infected by the Conficker worm. They also stated that the Conficker worm is still hitting Brazil and China.

Conficker is rampant in countries where many people are using bootleg copies of Microsoft Windows which is not advisable to do because it has no built-in security features exposing the computers open to infections. So don’t ever buy or use bootleg software. If you are using a legitimate and licensed Windows, always update it to get all the latest security patches. Of course, always keep an antivirus program that is working and updating automatically.

In these days, Conficker is still infecting many computers. It is now considered as one of the biggest worm infection of all time. Have Fun on Your 75th Birthday Celebration

Have Fun on Your 75th Birthday Celebration
By Gail Leino

It’s coming up on your big 75th birthday bash or at least you should be planning a big bash. There’s nothing like gathering all of your friends and family together to celebrate all the years that you have been on the earth. Sometimes you’ve been grumpy, sometimes you’ve been happy, but today of all days only happens once a year and the seventy-fifth birthday only ever happens once.

The 75th year is usually considered the platinum year. It would be nice if your guests could give you lots of platinum gifts, jewelry and watches and so forth, but that usually doesn’t happen. Try celebrating this year with lots of platinum and silver colored decorations. Many party supplies can be found that sport this theme and you can even come across some party supplies with the appropriate number year printed on theme. Hang colorful dangles from the ceiling and you just might find sporting the number seventy-five. Silver colored glitter and confetti strung about the party area make things a little brighter.

If you don’t really want to go through with the bother of putting seventy-five candles on the birthday cake get a single candle in the shape of the number seventy-five. Or get an unusual cake that itself is shaped in the form of the number seventy-five. A birthday party can easily be made special with just a few small changes to the traditional approach. For instance the reversal party is a fun idea.

Everything at the reversal party is backwards. So maybe you aren’t celebrating your seventy-fifth, maybe you are celebrating your fifty-seventh birthday. You can ice the cake and serve it upside down on the platter. Have the guests come to the party with their clothing inside out and hang all of your banners upside down. It’s a nifty little way to have fun and maybe turn back the clock for a little while.

Mrs. Party… Gail Leino is the internet’s leading authority on selecting the best possible party supplies (http://partysupplieshut.com), using proper etiquette, and living a healthy life while also teaching organizational skills and fun facts. 30th Birthday - Party Ideas to Show That You’re Getting Better With Age!

30th Birthday - Party Ideas to Show That You’re Getting Better With Age!
By Gail Leino

So you’re approaching your 30th birthday - you’ve got your pad, you’ve got a job, and maybe you have a great car and your significant other, maybe not. You’re getting older, and loving it. You have a stronger sense of identity, you feel better about yourself and you can party without guilt! So have a party, call your closest friends and family – your 30th birthday is a big occasion and well worthy of a great party.

Your 30th birthday is the time to have a ball but be smart. Make sure you have your fun but ensure that your guests are taken care of and enjoying their time at your party as well. If you are still single, invite lots of members of the opposite sex. Even if a relationship doesn’t eventuate, you might make yourself some new friends. The event should be classy with plenty of wine and cheese or hors d’oeuvres platters. The music can be very flexibly tailored to suit you and your guests. If you’re a party animal and you know your guests will get up and dance, you might opt to hire a juke-box; some people prefer lounge-style music, or anything in between.
